Chemicals to Die For

Visual catalog of the chemicals we turn to
in times of desperation
when life seems like death,

and which,
in time,
kill us.

Ethanol

Alcohol is the anesthesia by which we endure the operation of life.

– George Bernard Shaw

Caffeine

Should I kill myself, or have a cup of coffee?

– Albert Camus

Nicotine

So smoking is the perfect way to commit suicide without actually dying.

– Damien Hirst

This series of postcard-sized designs was created during a period of low, when the desperation to turn to these chemicals was temptingly high (I still don’t smoke).

Each geometric shape represents a chemical element, and are arranged in a manner reminiscent of constellations. Because in the same way we still look into the stars to provide answers to the meaningless of life, so do we turn to these chemicals in search of a shelter and a happiness that can never be found.
